GetCoattail Research — a filings audit of Equinix, Inc. (EQIX) through six filing lenses, as of the latest filings. Past patterns are not a promise of future results. For education only — not investment advice.
The Hype
Equinix is the landlord of the AI build-out: a Nasdaq-listed real estate investment trust (SIC 6798) whose data centers house other companies' servers. Its FY2025 filings show revenue of $9.2 billion, net income of $1.4 billion, and total assets of $40.1 billion. The price file tells a two-sided story. EQIX closed 2025 at $766.16, climbed to a 252-day high close of $1,115.94 on June 22, 2026, and then came off that high: the last close in the price file is $1,036.67 on October 29, 2026 — up 1.71% over 63 trading days, up 2.48% over 21 trading days, and down 0.55% since the June 30 quarter-end. Yet the same close is still up 35.31% year to date and up 29.95% over one year. The question this audit answers is what the filings recorded while the price traded below its June high: did the tracked funds, the broad market, insiders, Congress, or the control register move with the price, against it, or not at all?

Superinvestors. Ten of 147 tracked managers hold 3,321,790 shares — $3,462,600,679 reported — and the top three holders are 83.4% of it. Coatue Management holds 1,273,517 shares (38.3% of the tracked stake, 2.73% of its portfolio), INCREASED +16.7%, filed August 14, 2026. CenterSquare Investment Management holds 914,083 shares (27.5%, 8.13% of its portfolio), INCREASED +11.1%, filed August 7, 2026. Resolution Capital holds 582,867 shares (17.5%, 11.17% of its portfolio), DECREASED −10.0%, filed August 14, 2026. Sustainable Growth Advisers is the one NEW holder with 346,868 shares (3.55%), filed August 10, 2026. W.H. Reaves & Co. holds 173,604 shares (2.75%), DECREASED −0.1%. Christopher Davis — Davis Advisors holds 19,313 shares (0.09%), DECREASED −9.0%. Edgewood Management holds 9,277 shares (0.10%), DECREASED −2.6%. Saturna Capital holds 1,393 shares (0.02%), UNCHANGED. First Eagle Investment Management holds 544 shares (under 0.01% of its portfolio), DECREASED −2.3%. Guinness Asset Management holds 324 shares (0.01%), INCREASED +54.3%. No fund that held in the prior quarter exited in Q2. The tracked stake is 3.47% of all institutions' reported EQIX shares. One limit binds this lens: the Q2 file gives direction labels and rounded change percentages only, so no Q1 share count per holder is stated here — backing one out from a rounded percentage would be an estimate, not a fact.
All institutions. The broad market added while the tracked book split. Filers rose by 87 net to 1,356, of which 1,352 are long, while reported shares rose 19.54% (from 80,190,968 to 95,856,389) and reported value rose to $94,852,779,986 (from $73,106,214,547). Behind the net +87, 1,176 filers entered and 1,089 exited. The broad Q2 increase and the later price action cover different windows — the 13F snapshot ends June 30, while the price eased 0.55% after it — so the two are not read as one move.
Insiders. This lens is one-sided in every window the data reaches. In the 90 days to October 2, 2026, there are 6 open-market sales and 0 open-market buys: 3 sellers, 4,770 shares, $4,884,197.58, recomputed trade by trade from 5 parsed Form 4 filings. The sales are Paisley Christopher B (director, indirect) on August 3, 2026: 4,000 shares at $1,019.28 ($4,077,120.00); Paisley again on August 18: 125 shares at $1,103.58 ($137,947.50); Pletcher Kurt (officer, Chief Legal Officer, direct) on August 20: 135 shares at $1,075.50 ($145,192.50); Paladin Michael Shane (officer, Chief Customer & Revenue Officer, direct) on September 2: 53 shares at $1,008.0191 ($53,425.01) and 150 shares at $1,018.43 ($152,764.50); and Paladin again on September 4: 307 shares at $1,035.01 ($317,748.07). The site insider aggregate as of October 30, 2026 shows the same 6 sales, so no additional 90-day sale is recorded through that date. The wider windows are also buy-free: the year window holds 383 sales (65,676.75 shares, $61,232,712.53, 10 sellers, 0 buys), and the corpus aggregate holds 693 sales (114,729.75 shares, $105,540,386.04, 10 sellers, 0 buys). Those wider figures are aggregates only — no seller beyond the three named above is named from them. One exclusion matters: the September 3, 2026 filing also contains a 510-share M-code row at $0, an option exercise, which is not an open-market buy and is excluded from every buy count here.
Congress. One purchase, no sales, nothing from the Senate. The combined House and Senate data as of October 3, 2026 shows 1 purchase and 0 sales, and the Senate file holds no EQIX row — the purchase is House-side. A purchase was reported for Rep. Michael Rulli (Republican, U.S. House, OH-06): Equinix common stock, transaction date August 7, 2026, notification date August 7, 2026, amount $1,001–$15,000, House PTR Filing ID 20035365, filed September 2, 2026 — 26 days after the trade, inside the 45-day STOCK Act window, so it is not described as late. The account line as printed reads "Merrill Lynch SIMPLE Managed Account"; the text extraction does not unambiguously show the owner code, so this article says only that a purchase was reported, not who within the account bought. The two other Rulli PTR PDFs on the member page (filed August 7 and August 25, 2026) were checked and contain no EQIX row.
13D/G. The control register is passive — index giants, no activist. In the site's 13D/G collection, 3 filings match CUSIP 29444U700: 0 Schedule 13D, 3 Schedule 13G-family filings, 1 amendment, 3 reporters, latest filing April 29, 2026, maximum reported stake 7.55%, total shares reported 13,442,808. The rows are Vanguard Portfolio Management — SC 13G, event March 31, 2026, filed April 29, 2026, 6,015,928 shares, 6.12%; Vanguard Capital Management — SC 13G, same event and filing dates, 7,426,880 shares, 7.55%; and The Vanguard Group — SC 13G/A (amendment 12), event March 13, 2026, filed March 26, 2026, 0 shares, 0.0%. The phrasing is collection-scoped on purpose: whether the collection is exhaustive for 2025 was not established, so this article does not claim only 3 such filings exist. A separate older acquisition corpus holds 14 EQIX rows from January 29, 2021 to May 8, 2024 (1 SC 13G and 13 SC 13G/A, reporters BlackRock, Vanguard Group, and State Street; maximum stake 13.14%, Vanguard, filed February 9, 2023). The two collections have different windows and methods and are never presented as one continuous series.
Short interest. The bear trade is small and the fails footprint is zero. FINRA short interest stood at 1,696,093 shares at September 15, 2026, with 3.29 days to cover and 1.72% of shares outstanding (98,671,686 as reported July 28, 2026). The six-settlement series runs 1,773,603 (June 30), 1,877,216 (July 15), 1,905,105 (July 31), 1,655,729 (August 14), 1,646,357 (August 31), and 1,696,093 (September 15) — a July peak, then a lower plateau. Fails-to-deliver were 510 shares (0.0288% of short interest) on June 30 and 0 on every settlement from July 15 through September 15. There is no squeeze footprint in this lens.
Prices and fundamentals. The last close in the price file is $1,036.67 on October 29, 2026 (open $1,038.74, high $1,068.33, low $1,023.00, volume 816,633; 21-day average volume 543,973). Changes to that close: +2.48% over 21 trading days (from $1,011.58 on September 30), +1.71% over 63 trading days (from $1,019.28 on July 31), −0.55% since the June 30 quarter-end close ($1,042.39), +5.76% since the March 31 close ($980.24), +35.31% year to date (from $766.16 on December 31, 2025), and +29.95% over one year (from $797.73 on October 29, 2025). The 252-trading-day range to October 29 runs from a low close of $726.09 (December 4, 2025) to a high close of $1,115.94 (June 22, 2026). Closes are split-adjusted Yahoo bars as used by the site, not dividend-adjusted total return. As supplementary page context, the stock page's recent 8-K block lists August 6, 2026 (Item 2.02, results of operations) and July 29, 2026 (Items 5.02 and 5.07, management changes and shareholder vote).
The Gap
The price and the filing tape do not tell the same story, and the difference is in the windows. The broad institutional base grew 19.54% in shares during Q2, but that snapshot ends June 30 — before the price's 0.55% easing to October 29 — so it cannot explain the price action, and the tracked book inside it is split rather than pointed: 5 funds cut, 3 added, 1 was new, 1 stood still, and no fund exited. No net tracked direction is claimed, because Q1 share counts per holder are not in the data. What the tape does show, in every window it reaches, is one-sided insider action: 0 open-market buys against 6 sales in 90 days, 0 buys against 383 sales in the year window, and 0 buys against 693 sales in the corpus aggregate. Against $4,884,197.58 of 90-day insider sales, the single reported Congress purchase sits in the $1,001–$15,000 disclosure range — a different scale entirely, and a range, not a dollar amount. The control register adds no activist pressure: 0 Schedule 13D filings, with the largest reported stake a 7.55% Vanguard 13G. The short lens adds no squeeze setup: 1.72% of shares outstanding, 3.29 days to cover, and zero fails since July 15. One plausible reading is that the tape shows drift, not conviction — a split tracked book, insiders selling without buying, a token-size Congress purchase, passive control holders, and a small short position. The record does not show a coordinated buy, and it does not show a crowded short either.
What Would Change the Picture
Nothing above is a recommendation. It is a record. What would change it:
- Q3 13F season (filings due by November 16, 2026). Watch whether any new tracked holder appears, whether Coatue adds again from 1,273,517 shares or trims after +16.7% in Q2, whether CenterSquare and Resolution extend or reverse their moves, and whether any fund exits after a Q2 with zero exits.
- A first open-market insider buy in any window would break a buy-free record that spans the 90-day, year, and corpus windows — and a first 90-day sale by a fourth seller would widen a seller list that currently holds three names.
- A second member of Congress trading EQIX, or a first Senate transaction, would change a lens that currently holds one House purchase and no Senate row.
- A first Schedule 13D filing, or a 13G filing above 7.55%, would change a control register whose largest reported stake is a Vanguard 13G and whose only amendment is a zero-share Vanguard 13G/A.
- Short-interest direction. A rise back above the July 31 level of 1,905,105 shares, or fails-to-deliver reappearing above 0 after five straight zero settlements, would each give the short lens something it does not currently have.
As-of & Limits
| Lens | As of | Limit or note |
|---|---|---|
| Superinvestors (13F) | Jun 30, 2026 | 13F figures are as of June 30, 2026, the quarter-end. Funds have up to 45 days after quarter-end to file, so this is the most recent complete picture — and it is always a lagging one. Single CUSIP 29444U700. Q1 share counts per holder are not in any workspace file found, so direction labels and rounded change percentages only are stated; no Q1 share count is backed out from a rounded percentage. Q3 filings are due by November 16, 2026 and are not in this article. |
| All institutions (13F) | Jun 30, 2026 | Reported value includes option rows by definition; implied price is not a price check. By-ticker row is the SEC 13F dataset row for EQIX; it matches the stock page's all-institutions panel exactly. |
| Insiders (Form 4) | Oct 2, 2026 | This lens counts only P and S codes. In 90 days: 5 filings, 0 buys, 6 sells (4,770 shares, $4,884,197.58); in the year window: 82 filings, 0 buys, 383 sells (65,676.75 shares, $61,232,712.53); in the corpus aggregate: 138 filings, 0 buys, 693 sells (114,729.75 shares, $105,540,386.04). Year and corpus figures are aggregates only; no seller beyond Paisley, Pletcher, and Paladin is named from them. The 510-share M-code row at $0 in the September 3, 2026 filing is an option exercise, not an open-market buy. The site aggregate as of October 30, 2026 shows the same 6 sales; a writer publishing later must re-check the window. |
| Congress | Oct 3, 2026 | One member (Rulli, Michael, R): 1 purchase, 0 sales; Senate: no EQIX row. Reported as member-disclosure aggregates, not Form 4 insider transactions, and never added to insider totals. Amounts are disclosure ranges as filed. The account line is quoted verbatim; the owner sub-code (filer vs spouse vs joint) is not established from text extraction, so only "a purchase was reported" is claimed. |
| 13D/G | Apr 29, 2026 | Collection-scoped phrasing: in the site's 13D/G collection, 3 filings match CUSIP 29444U700. Whether the collection is exhaustive for 2025 was not established, so no claim that only 3 such filings exist is made. The 2021–2024 corpus (14 rows) is a separate collection with different windows and methods and is never merged into the collection series. Filing percentages are as reported; denominators differ by filing date and are not recomputed. |
| Short interest | Sep 15, 2026 | Shares-outstanding count is as of July 28, 2026. Fails are SEC semi-monthly prints; the series is reported as settlements, not as a signal. |
| Prices | Oct 23, 2026 | Price file fetched October 30, 2026 (5,027 candles, November 3, 2006 to October 29, 2026). Closes are split-adjusted Yahoo bars as used by the site, not dividend-adjusted total return. The article's price as-of date is October 29, 2026. |
| Fundamentals | FY2025 | Issuer CIK 1101239. FY2025 revenue, net income, and total assets collected October 7, 2026 from SEC EDGAR company filings. Market capitalisation of $102.3 billion is computed at the October 29, 2026 close of $1,036.67. |
Methodology & disclaimer: 13F holdings are long shares unless stated; reported values include option rows for the all-institutions lens by definition. Short interest is FINRA twice-monthly settlements. Trading costs and taxes are not reflected in any figure. Past patterns are not a promise of future results.
