GetCoattail Research — The Filing Tape #139. GE Aerospace reported third-quarter results this morning, and "ge stock" is a trending Google search in the United States. The filings behind the earnings story describe a register with one dominant name: 15 of the 147 superinvestors we track held GE Aerospace at June 30, 2026, totalling 58,103,600 shares — and Chris Hohn's TCI Fund Management alone is 47,428,233 of them, 81.6% of the tracked stake. The fourteen holders who were already there shrank 2.2% between them in a quarter when the price rose 31.7%. Inside the company, the record is one-directional: across 90 Form 4 filings, insiders have sold 35 times and have never bought a share.
The Hype
GE Aerospace's attention today is an earnings event. The company reported third-quarter results before the open on October 20, 2026: adjusted earnings per share of $2.25, adjusted revenue of $13.3 billion, and total orders of $19.0 billion, up 49% from a year earlier, according to the company's press release as reported by Seeking Alpha. Seeking Alpha Barron's reported the stock down 0.6% in early trading despite the beat, after falls following each of the previous three quarterly reports. Barron's Our price file shows the setup: the stock rose 31.7% in the second quarter, from $283.77 on March 31 to $373.73 on June 30, touched a 252-session high of $381.22 on August 5 — then fell back to $309.56 by October 2, down 17.2% from the quarter-end close, while still up 0.5% year to date. A beat the market is again shrugging at: the filings answer who held the stock into it, and in what size.
The Tape
For GE Aerospace — the one hundred and thirty-ninth Filing Tape audit — the tape shows a fifteen-name tracked register dominated by a single holder, an insider record with no purchase in it at all, two small congressional sales, a passive-only 5% register, and a short position that has rebuilt since June.

Lens 1 — the superinvestors: fifteen holders, one of them 81.6%. We track 149 managers whose 13F portfolios we collect from SEC EDGAR — 147 are in the collection (144 at a June 30 period-end, 3 early filers at September 30, none holding this name at September 30, so there is no period split) — and the June 30, 2026 register for the common stock (CUSIP 369604301) is 15 distinct managers holding 58,103,600 shares worth $21,715,058,899, long only, with no option rows: 8 are labelled DECREASED, 4 UNCHANGED, 2 INCREASED and 1 NEW, with two exits during the quarter. Chris Hohn - TCI Fund Management is the register's largest holder by an order of magnitude: 47,428,233 shares worth $17,725,353,519 — 81.6% of the tracked stake — at a 33.59% portfolio weight, labelled DECREASED -0.2% (filed August 14, 2026). Nelson Peltz - Trian Fund Management is next (4,030,765 shares, 6.9% of the cohort, UNCHANGED, at a 35.61% weight), so the top two holders together are 88.6% of the tracked stake. Behind them sit Winslow Capital Management (1,708,225 shares, DECREASED -28.4%), Axiom Investors (1,380,572 shares, DECREASED -8.8%), Skye Global Management (1,098,000 shares, DECREASED -8.7%), AKO Capital (771,417 shares, DECREASED -22.6%), Polen Capital Management (690,493 shares, NEW), Dodge & Cox Funds (598,052 shares, DECREASED -19.0%) and Atalanta Sosnoff Capital (334,635 shares, INCREASED +41.8%), with six further holders at 33,816 shares or fewer. Verified row by row for all fourteen continuing holders (methodology), those fourteen held 58,684,307 shares at March 31 and 57,413,107 at June 30 (-2.2%) — eight cut, four stood still and two raised, and TCI itself trimmed 82,198 shares. The full register fell 1.0% after Polen's new position, and reconciles with no residual in either quarter. All fifteen rows imply $373.73, the June 30 close. 13F figures are as of June 30, 2026, published up to 45 days later.
Lens 2 — institutions: 263 more filers, and 13.98% more shares. At June 30, 2026, 3,447 institutions reported positions, up 263 from 3,184 at March 31 (+8.26%); 3,437 are long. Reported shares rose 13.98% to 823,155,577 (+100,993,904 shares), and reported value rose 52.42% to $302,676,707,515, labelled "reported" because the aggregate includes option rows (methodology), in a quarter when the price rose 31.7%. Flow counts agree (2,139 entered, 1,876 exited, net +263), and the aggregate's two CUSIP lines sum exactly to its totals on shares and value (methodology). Against that total, the tracked cohort's 58,103,600 shares are 7.06% of reported institutional shares — and TCI alone is most of that cohort.
Lens 3 — insiders: sales only, across the entire record. The parsed Form 4 record holds 90 filings through October 2, 2026, and it contains no open-market purchase at all — 0 purchases by 0 buyers, in the last 90 days, in the last year and across the full record, officer purchases included. The last 90 days hold 8 sales (19,855 shares for $7,180,160.05, by 3 sellers, all 8 of them officer sales); the last year holds 15 sales (66,053 shares for $21,265,572.93, by 5 sellers, all of them officer sales); and the full record holds 35 sales (99,064 shares for $28,081,116.85, by 6 sellers, all 35 of them officer sales). The sales imply $361.63 per share over the last 90 days, $321.95 over the last year and $283.46 across the full record — each inside its window's close range on our price file (methodology). The site's insider aggregate matches the full parse's 90-day figures exactly for this name.
Lens 4 — Congress: two sales, both small, both in the House. The combined aggregate (as of October 3, 2026) records 0 purchases and 2 sales for this name. The collection's member-level file attributes those two sales: Representative Laurel Lee sold once and Representative Matthew Robert Van Epps sold once, both on June 16, 2026, each in the $1,001–$15,000 amount band that House periodic transaction reports disclose. The House aggregate carries the same two-sale count; the Senate aggregate (as of October 1, 2026) carries no row for this name. The aggregates' own member fields for this ticker are empty, which is why the attribution above comes from the member-level file (methodology).
Lens 5 — the 5% register: five passive filings, maximum 7.6%. Our full parse holds 5 SC 13D/G filings matching the site aggregate — 0 SC 13D family and 5 SC 13G family (1 SC 13G, 4 amendments); 6 reporter names across 6 rows. The maximum is BlackRock, Inc. at 82,447,476 shares and 7.6% as of December 31, 2024 (filed January 31, 2025, SC 13G/A). The latest filing is FMR LLC at 52,133,926.26 shares and 5.0% as of March 31, 2026 (filed May 6, 2026, SC 13G/A), co-reported by Abigail P. Johnson. A second March 31, 2026 print, from Vanguard Capital Management, stands at 76,639,988 shares and 7.33%, and one further file, from The Vanguard Group, prints 0 shares (methodology).
Lens 6 — short interest: rebuilt since June, still small against the share count. The latest FINRA settlement, September 15, 2026, records 15,750,663 shares sold short — 1.52% of the 1,037,562,513 shares outstanding — at 4.21 days to cover, down 1.61% from the prior settlement. That is 21.8% above the June 30, 2026 settlement (12,927,498 shares), 10.6% above the year-ago settlement (14,247,171 shares), and 7.4% below the comparable-era peak of 17,008,368 shares, set on November 28, 2025. The recent path runs 12,927,498 (June 30), 14,900,112 (July 15), 14,243,769 (July 31), 13,409,539 (August 14), 16,008,228 (August 31) and 15,750,663 (September 15) — rises and falls alternating, ending higher than it began. Early series readings are in pre-reverse-split units and are not comparable (methodology).
The Gap
The narrative arriving today is an execution story: a $2.25 print against a $2.01 consensus, orders up 49%, and a stock that, on Barron's count, has now fallen after four consecutive earnings reports. The June tape mostly sits that story out. The register's dominant fact is concentration, not movement: one holder, TCI, is 81.6% of the tracked stake, and in the second quarter it trimmed 0.2%. The fourteen continuing holders together shrank 2.2% while the price rose 31.7%; eight of the fifteen rows are labelled DECREASED, and the only new name opened at 690,493 shares. The broad market did add — 263 more filers and 13.98% more shares — but against 823,155,577 institutional shares the tracked cohort is 7.06%, and most of that is the one holder who barely moved. Inside the company there is no buy side at all: 35 recorded sales, all by officers, and not one purchase — $7,180,160.05 of selling in the last 90 days. In Congress the only recorded trades are two House sales of $1,001–$15,000 each. And the borrow, at 1.52% of the share count, has quietly rebuilt 21.8% since June 30 while the price fell 17.2% from the quarter-end close. One plausible reading is that the filings describe a stock held in size by very few hands, traded around the edges by everyone else: the earnings story belongs to the income statement, and the tape's answer to it, so far, is a trim, a standstill, and a slowly rebuilding short.
What Would Change the Picture
Nothing above is a recommendation. These filings would change it:
- 1. The 2026Q3 13F season (filing window closing mid-November 2026). The verified continuing baseline is 57,413,107 shares across fourteen holders, and TCI's is 47,428,233 shares — 81.6% of the tracked total. Whether TCI's near-standstill becomes an add or a real cut, whether the eight holders who cut in Q2 keep cutting, and whether Polen's new 690,493-share position grows would each change this lens.
- 2. A first insider purchase — ever. The parsed record holds 0 purchases against 35 sales, including 8 sales in the last 90 days. Any recorded open-market purchase would be the first in this record and would change this lens outright; continued selling above the recent 90-day pace would deepen it instead.
- 3. A first congressional purchase, or a larger sale. The record holds two House sales, each in the $1,001–$15,000 band, and no purchases; the Senate holds none. A first purchase at any size, a sale in a larger band, or any Senate row would each change this lens.
- 4. A first SC 13D filing, or a new 5% print above 7.6%. The register's 5 filings are all SC 13G family, and its latest print has FMR LLC at 5.0%. A first activist-form filing, or any print above BlackRock's 7.6% maximum, would change this lens.
- 5. Short interest above the comparable-era peak, or back below the June 30 settlement. The borrow stands at 15,750,663 shares, 7.4% below the November 28, 2025 peak of 17,008,368 and 21.8% above the June 30, 2026 settlement of 12,927,498. A reading above 17,008,368 would make the rebuild the story; a reading below 12,927,498 would end it.

Methodology and data notes
- As-of & limits: The lenses rest on different clocks, none live: 13F is a June 30, 2026 snapshot published up to 45 days later; Form 4 runs through October 2, 2026; Congress aggregates run through October 3, 2026 (Senate through October 1, 2026); 13D/G through May 6, 2026; short interest through September 15, 2026; the price file ends October 2, 2026. Eight limits are specific to this audit. First, the roster expanded before the recent audits — from 85 managers (83 filing) to 149 (147 filing) — so "of 147" counts are not comparable to earlier pieces' "of 83" figures. Second, this name carries no period split in its headline count — all fifteen tracked common-stock holders sit on a June 30, 2026 period-end and none of the three September 30, 2026 early filers holds this name — and the register reconciles exactly in both quarters: the March 31 register (58,688,579 shares, 16 rows) equals the verified continuing cohort's Q1 total (58,684,307) plus the two exits' 4,272 shares (Hillman Capital Management, 1,282 shares on the current CUSIP; Steven Check - Check Capital Management, 2,990 shares on the legacy CUSIP), and the June 30 register (58,103,600 shares) equals that cohort's Q2 total (57,413,107) plus the one new holder's 690,493 shares, as detailed in Lens 1. Third, one continuing holder, AKO Capital, is a unit-corrected filer: its pipeline register values print in thousands, so value-based register matching fails for it; it is paired instead by share count (Q1 accession 0001376879-26-000003: 996,847 shares at March 31; Q2 accession 0001376879-26-000006: 771,417 shares at June 30), and the recomputed change, -22.6%, matches its filed label exactly. The other thirteen continuing holders verify under both standard register methods, which agree exactly. Fourth, the full-market aggregate for this issuer rests on two CUSIP lines (current CUSIP 369604301: 3,427 holders, 823,076,620 shares; legacy CUSIP 369604103: 21 holders, 78,957 shares); their share and value fields sum exactly to the by-ticker totals, while their holder counts sum to one more than the by-ticker count (3,448 against 3,447) because a filer reporting under both CUSIPs is counted once per line — a definitional difference, not a discrepancy. Its implied price of $367.70 sits 1.61% below the June 30 close of $373.73 because the reported aggregate includes option rows, which is why share counts, not reported value, are this audit's primary institution measure. Fifth, the insider record's two aggregations agree exactly here: the site's 90-day insider aggregate (dated October 20, 2026) records the same 8 sales worth $7,180,160.05 by 3 sellers as the full parse's 90 days to October 2, 2026, and both record 0 purchases; this audit cites the full parse throughout. The full-record implied sale price is checked against the price file's full range ($38.06–$381.22, which reaches back to 2021 prices), so that gate is weak by construction; the 90-day and one-year gates use their own windows' ranges. Sixth, the congressional aggregates count this name's two sales but leave their member and party fields empty (0 members, no parties listed); the attribution in Lens 4 — Representatives Lee and Van Epps, one sale each on June 16, 2026, each in the $1,001–$15,000 band — comes from the same House collection's member-level file (as of October 3, 2026; transactions dated on or after April 1, 2026), whose GE sale count (2) matches the aggregate's. Seventh, the 5% register's cross-date share total of 312,312,581.52 sums prints from different dates and is not a current stake; within it, FMR LLC and Abigail P. Johnson co-report the same position in the latest filing (two reporter rows with identical share counts), one FMR print carries fractional share counts as filed, and one file — The Vanguard Group at 0 shares and 0.0% as of March 13, 2026 (filed March 26, 2026, SC 13G/A) — is keyed to the same CUSIP, so it sits inside the aggregate by definition and changes neither the maximum nor the economics of the register. Eighth, the short-interest series is not one continuous basis: the August 13, 2021 settlement falls to 0.128x the prior settlement across the August 2, 2021 1-for-8 reverse split (that settlement carries the series' only split flag), so pre-split readings — including the series maximum of 111,292,388 shares on May 14, 2021 — are in pre-split units and are excluded from every comparison and from Chart 2; the comparable era is the 123 settlements from August 13, 2021 onward. The series also carries three revision flags (April 15, 2021; June 15, 2021; May 31, 2023), the issuer-name field changes spelling mid-series ("General Electric Company" in 78 settlements, "GE Aerospace" in 59), and our price file records three adjustment entries for this name (the 2021 reverse split and the 2023 and 2024 spin-off adjustments), with no single-day price move of 1.5x or more, or 0.6x or less, anywhere in the file. All fifteen tracked common-stock 13F rows imply the June 30 close of $373.73, and the cohort's blended implied price is $373.73. The company's fundamentals as collected print fiscal 2025 revenue of $45,855,000,000, net income of $8,704,000,000 and assets of $130,169,000,000 (all as collected from the fin_series_cache source), with 1,037,562,513 shares outstanding as of June 30, 2026; those figures are reported as collected and are not used in any lens above. Every price statement here is mechanical, a date and a close from our price file. The Seeking Alpha and Barron's reports (both published October 20, 2026) postdate the 13F snapshot and the short-interest series; none of their figures are cited here beyond the earnings figures and market reaction reported as outlet content in The Hype.
