GetCoattail Research — Uber is the market's autonomy argument: record bookings, a stock 32.0% below its October 2025 closing high in our price file, and analyst targets split between $73 and $110. We ran it through every filing lens we maintain. Twelve of our 83 superinvestors hold it long — 62,694,081 shares — and more than half of that cohort is one position opened in the second quarter. Its insiders, unusually for this series, bought more than they sold in the last 90 days.
Start with the narrative: scale the market is pricing as an autonomy question. Uber's second quarter of 2026 was reported with gross bookings of $58.0 billion, up 22% year over year in constant currency, revenue of $14.19 billion, up 12%, and adjusted earnings per share of $0.81, up 35%. Trips reached 3.87 billion, up 18%, monthly active platform consumers 208 million, up 16%, and trailing twelve-month free cash flow crossed $10 billion for the first time. Management guided third-quarter gross bookings to $58.25–$60.25 billion. The argument around the stock is not the bookings line: it is whether robotaxis run by others eventually take the economics of the trip. Uber has answered with partnerships — Pony.ai robotaxi testing planned in London, autonomous operations targeted in 15 cities by end-2026 — and a roughly $2.3 billion cash agreement to acquire ezCater. Analyst targets frame the split: Citizens JMP reaffirmed Market Outperform and a $100 target on October 9, Wolfe Research has set $110, and Melius downgraded the stock to Sell at $73. Next earnings: November 3, 2026. AltIndex's Reddit-mention ranking places Uber seventeenth, at 107 mentions — the highest-ranked stock we had not yet audited once the sixteen names above it, all previously covered or skipped in this series, were set aside.
Now the filings. GetCoattail tracks the investors best placed to know any company: superinvestors, institutions, insiders, Congress, and 5% holders. For Uber — the twenty-fifth Filing Tape audit — the story is a cohort transformed by two new positions, insiders whose recent buys outweigh their sales, a congressional register in one chamber only, and a shrinking borrow.
Lens 1: the superinvestors — twelve holders, and two new positions are 69.0% of the cohort
We track 83 large, mostly long-only managers whose 13F portfolios we collect directly from SEC EDGAR. As of June 30, 2026, 12 held Uber in a long common-stock position — long rows, no option rows. Together they held 62,694,081 shares worth $4,524,004,875. The direction count: two new, three increased, five decreased, two unchanged — and the two new positions together hold 43,269,351 shares, 69.0% of the entire cohort.
The largest of them rewrites the register. Bill Ackman's Pershing Square reported 34,326,200 shares worth $2,476,978,592 as a new position, a 12.72% portfolio weight — 54.8% of the entire cohort alone. The second new position is Terry Smith's Fundsmith, with 8,943,151 shares worth $645,337,776, a 4.73% weight. Behind them, David Tepper's Appaloosa holds 7,694,071 shares worth $555,204,163, a 7.19% weight, increased 21.5%. The remaining nine are smaller and mostly trimmed: Russo 5,084,015 shares (−1.7%); Armitage 2,319,648 (−50.1%); Dorsey 1,761,941 (+61.6%); First Pacific 976,544 (+0.7%); Polen 570,063 (−80.5%); IMA 485,805 (−1.6%); Cantillon 238,965 (−95.4%); Tiger Global 151,178 (unchanged); Markel 142,500 (unchanged). The top three together are 81.3% of the cohort. On the pipeline's CUSIP basis in both quarters, the cohort total ran from 26,628,915 shares at March 31 to 62,208,276 at June 30 — up 133.61% — in a quarter when the price moved from $71.93 to $72.16, up 0.3% (see methodology for a one-manager difference between the pipeline and EDGAR-collection totals).
Lens 2: institutions — a broad register that grew shares faster than filers
Zoom out to the whole 13F market: the register is broad and growing. At June 30, 2026, 2,419 institutions reported positions, up from 2,397 at March 31 (+0.92%), and 2,403 reported long positions. Reported shares rose 13.62%, from 1,466,397,587 to 1,666,051,930 shares, with 1,732 filers entering and 1,710 exiting. Reported aggregate value rose 15.00% to $126,220,308,766; the aggregate includes option rows, so we headline filer and share counts and label dollars "reported" (see methodology). The implied value per share, $75.76, sits 5.0% above the June 30 close of $72.16 — a modest gap by this series' standards, and a sign that most of this name's reported value runs through common shares, not option rows.
Lens 3: the 5% register — four filings, all 13G, no activist
Four SC 13D/G filings cover Uber — zero in the 13D family and four 13G filings, two of them amendments, three reporting names, most recently filed April 30, 2026, maximum reported percentage 9.15%. The largest row belongs to The Vanguard Group, which reported 190,827,921 shares (9.15%) as of September 30, 2025, filed October 31, 2025. Vanguard Capital Management reported 154,014,044 shares (7.53%) as of March 31, 2026, filed April 30, 2026. Capital Research Global Investors reported 118,131,681 shares (5.6%) as of December 31, 2024. The Vanguard Group also reported a 0-share row as of March 13, 2026 — the same sequence seen in several earlier audits, where a Vanguard position reappears under a related reporting name; we report rows as filed, without summing them or calling the zero an exit.
Lens 4: insiders — six purchases in the record, and the last 90 days bought more than they sold
This register is the series' exception twice over: the buy column is not empty, and recently it is the larger column. Across the parsed Form 4 record (211 filings through October 2, 2026), there are six open-market purchases totalling 233,458 shares and $16,914,260.84, by four buyers — all six recorded as officer purchases. Against that stand 27 sales totalling 818,991 shares and $75,465,225.55, by five sellers, all 27 recorded as officer sales. All six purchases fall in the most recent year (116 filings), which also holds seven sales totalling $5,852,012.22. In the 90 days through October 2, 2026, 22 filings covered three purchases totalling 211,000 shares and $15,314,015.88, by two buyers, against one sale of 28,170 shares and $2,008,673.12 — a net purchase of 182,830 shares. Our site's insider aggregate (October 10, 2026) records exactly the same 90-day figures and flags a chief executive purchase in the window, most recently dated September 10, 2026; market reporting put Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi's purchase at 141,000 shares at a weighted average of $70.96, roughly $10.0 million. Some selling is mechanical — vesting, tax withholding and pre-arranged plans — and we assign no motives.
Lens 5: Congress — three House members, no Senate record
Across the congressional record we maintain (combined record as of October 3, 2026), Uber's register holds three members, three purchase transactions and two sale transactions, most recent purchase July 10, 2026, both parties represented — all of it in the House file (as of October 3, 2026). The Senate aggregate (as of October 1, 2026) carries no Uber record. Congressional disclosures report value ranges, so this lens records direction and counts only.
Lens 6: short interest — down 49.7% from its 2022 peak, at 2.24% of the share count
As of September 15, 2026 — the most recent FINRA settlement date — 45,718,444 Uber shares were sold short, with days-to-cover of 2.33, up 1.32% from the prior settlement. The series peak stands at 90,806,927 shares on May 13, 2022, so the latest reading is 49.7% below the peak; the June 30, 2026 settlement recorded 56,087,568 shares, so the borrow has fallen 18.5% since quarter-end. Against the 2,042,560,121 shares in our fundamentals file (as of July 31, 2026), the borrow is 2.24% of the share count. Year over year: the September 15, 2025 settlement recorded 52,783,148 shares, so the borrow is down 13.4%.
The recent settlements run 51,841,219 on July 15, then 47,409,310, 46,397,214, 45,121,710 and 45,718,444. The series began at 53,076,559 shares on January 15, 2021; its lowest reading is 29,996,328 on January 13, 2023 — the May 2022 peak was roughly three times that low.
The gap, stated plainly
The registers describe a stock the tracked smart money joined late, in size, and mostly through two doors. Twelve of 83 tracked superinvestors hold Uber — 62,694,081 shares — but 69.0% of that cohort arrived as new positions in one quarter, and Pershing Square alone is 54.8% of it. The full market was already there: filers rose 0.92% to 2,419 while reported shares rose 13.62% to 1,666,051,930. Insiders are the second exception: six purchases totalling $16,914,260.84, all by officers, all within the last year — against 27 sales totalling $75,465,225.55 across the full record, but only $2,008,673.12 of sales in the last 90 days against $15,314,015.88 of purchases. Congress registers a small House-only record: three members, three purchases, two sales, nothing in the Senate file. And the borrow, at 45,718,444 shares and 2.24% of the share count, is down 13.4% in a year and 49.7% below its May 2022 peak. One plausible reading is that the filings crowd reached this name after the price had fallen — new tracked money and insider buying arriving into a drawdown, while the borrow that once pressed the stock has retreated for years. The record supports each clause separately; it does not say which register is right.
What would change the picture
Nothing above is a recommendation. It is a record. These are the filings that would change the description:
- 1. The 2026Q3 13Fs (filing window closing mid-November 2026). Q3 contains the September insider purchases and the run-up to the November 3 earnings report. Whether Pershing Square's 34,326,200 shares and Fundsmith's 8,943,151 survived it, and whether any of the other 71 tracked managers joins them, is the whole lens: at twelve holders with 81.3% in three hands, one filer rewrites this register.
- 2. Insider filings after October 2 — in either direction. Six purchases totalling $16,914,260.84 stand against 27 sales totalling $75,465,225.55, with the last 90 days running $15,314,015.88 of purchases against $2,008,673.12 of sales. A purchase after the November 3 print would extend a buy column that opened only within the last year; one-sided selling would close it.
- 3. The next short-interest settlements after a 13.4% down year. The borrow stood at 45,718,444 shares on September 15, down from 52,783,148 a year earlier and 49.7% below the May 13, 2022 peak of 90,806,927. The next settlements show whether borrowers treat this level as a floor or a waypoint: FINRA publishes biweekly.
- 4. A first Senate filing, from anyone. No senator appears in the record we maintain; the register is House-only, three members and five transactions. One Senate transaction would create the other half of a register that does not exist.
- 5. Any 13D, from anyone. The 5% register holds four 13G filings and nothing else — The Vanguard Group at 9.15%, Vanguard Capital Management at 7.53%, Capital Research Global Investors at 5.6%. A first 13D, or a new 13G filer above 5%, would change that register's character.
Until one of those prints, the record describes a stock held by twelve of our 83 tracked superinvestors — 62,694,081 shares, 54.8% of them one new Pershing Square position — whose insiders bought six times and bought more than they sold in the last 90 days, which three House members have traded and no senator has, and whose borrow, at 45,718,444 shares, has fallen 13.4% in a year to 2.24% of the share count.

Methodology and data notes
- Superinvestor lens: 83 managers collected directly from SEC EDGAR Form 13F (managers_13f collection), positions as of June 30, 2026; Uber identified by CUSIP 90353T100. Twelve distinct managers hold a long position totalling 62,694,081 shares; all twelve reported rows are long (no put or call rows). Direction counts across the twelve long holders: 2 new, 3 increased, 5 decreased, 2 unchanged. The largest holder's share of the cohort is 34,326,200 / 62,694,081 = 54.8%; the two new positions total 43,269,351 shares = 69.0% of the cohort; the top three holders total 81.3%. Quarter-to-quarter cohort totals (26,628,915 shares at March 31; 62,208,276 shares at June 30; change +133.61% = (62,208,276 / 26,628,915) − 1) are from the site pipeline's holdings files on the same CUSIP basis in both quarters. The pipeline's second-quarter total differs from the EDGAR collection's long total by exactly one manager: the pipeline file holds eleven of the twelve positions and omits Investment Management Associates' 485,805 shares ($35,055,689), so its total sits 485,805 shares below the collection total. We headline the collection total and use the pipeline only for the like-for-like quarterly comparison, and we report the difference rather than averaging it away.
- Full-market lens: SEC Form 13F Data Sets full-market aggregation (the fixtures underlying our 2026Q1–Q2 market tables). Holders = distinct filers reporting the CUSIP; 2,403 of the 2,419 reported long positions. Reported-value caution: the aggregate value ($126,220,308,766 over 1,666,051,930 shares) implies ≈$75.76 per share against a June 30, 2026 close of $72.16 in our price file, a gap of 5.0%. The aggregate sums the VALUE of every information-table row — including put and call option rows — while the share count covers long common-stock rows only, so we headline filer and share counts and label dollar values "reported."
- Insider lens: full-parse Form 4 aggregation (agg_by_ticker), record as of October 2, 2026 (211 filings). Sale and purchase counts are transaction-code counts (S and P) in non-derivative rows; grants and exercises are not counted as purchases, and one filing can contain many transaction rows. Purchase transactions total six across the full record (233,458 shares, $16,914,260.84, four buyers), all six recorded as officer purchases and all within the most recent year. Sale transactions total 27 across the full record (818,991 shares, $75,465,225.55, five sellers), all 27 recorded as officer sales. In the most recent year: six purchases; seven sale transactions, $5,852,012.22, four sellers. In the 90 days through October 2, 2026: three purchases, 211,000 shares, $15,314,015.88, two buyers; one sale transaction, 28,170 shares, $2,008,673.12, one seller. The site's insider aggregate (compiled as of October 10, 2026) records the same 90-day figures — three purchases, one sale transaction and $15,314,015.88 of purchases against $2,008,673.12 of sales: it matches the full-parse figures exactly, and we report the match as observed. The aggregate additionally flags a chief-executive purchase in the window and dates the most recent purchase September 10, 2026.
- 13D/G lens: full-parse SC 13D/G aggregation and parsed filings (4 filings matching CUSIP 90353T100, three reporting names in aggregate), filings through April 30, 2026. The Vanguard Group's rows (190,827,921 shares at 9.15% as of September 30, 2025; 0 shares as of March 13, 2026), Vanguard Capital Management's row (154,014,044 shares at 7.53% as of March 31, 2026) and Capital Research Global Investors' row (118,131,681 shares at 5.6% as of December 31, 2024) are reported as separate rows, as filed; they are not summed. The aggregation's totalSharesReported field (462,973,646 shares) sums overlapping reporters and successive amendments and is not used. Percentages are quoted exactly as reported in the respective filings.
- Congress lens: Senate PTR archive and House PTR archive as maintained on this site, combined record as of October 3, 2026 — three members, three purchase transactions and two sale transactions, most recent purchase July 10, 2026, both parties represented. The House aggregate (as of October 3, 2026) carries the same record in full; the Senate aggregate (as of October 1, 2026) carries no Uber record, and we report that absence rather than omitting the chamber. Congressional disclosures report value ranges, so where this lens has data it records direction and counts only.
- Short interest lens: FINRA Equity Short Interest files (biweekly settlement dates), collected directly from FINRA's public distribution; the Uber series covers 137 settlements from January 15, 2021 to September 15, 2026. The maximum of the full collected series is 90,806,927 shares on May 13, 2022, so the latest reading of 45,718,444 shares on September 15, 2026 sits 49.7% below the peak ((45,718,444 / 90,806,927) − 1) and 13.4% below the September 15, 2025 reading of 52,783,148; the change from the prior settlement (45,121,710 shares on August 31, 2026) is +1.32%, and the change from the June 30, 2026 settlement (56,087,568 shares) is −18.5%. FINRA publishes each settlement about two weeks after the fact. The share-count ratio uses the fundamentals file's share count of 2,042,560,121 shares outstanding as of July 31, 2026.
- Fundamentals note: our fundamentals collection carries Uber's fiscal-2025 revenue of $52,017,000,000, fiscal-2025 net income of $10,053,000,000 and fiscal-2025 assets of $61,802,000,000. The market value of about $141.10 billion uses that file's October 6, 2026 price ($69.08) and reported share count.
- Prices: our own daily-close file for Uber through October 2, 2026 ($68.11 close, −16.6% year to date on that file; 252-session closing high $100.10 on October 6, 2025; 252-session closing low $65.94 on July 24, 2026; closes of $71.93 at March 31, 2026 and $72.16 at June 30, 2026, a second-quarter change of +0.3%; change from June 30 to October 2 of −5.6% ((68.11 / 72.16) − 1)). The drawdown from the 252-session closing high is −32.0% ((68.11 / 100.10) − 1), and the gain from the 252-session closing low is +3.3%.
- Market context sources: second-quarter 2026 gross bookings of $58.0 billion, up 22% year over year in constant currency, revenue of $14.19 billion, up 12%, adjusted EPS of $0.81, up 35%, trips of 3.87 billion, up 18%, monthly active platform consumers of 208 million, up 16%, trailing twelve-month free cash flow above $10 billion for the first time, and third-quarter gross bookings guidance of $58.25–$60.25 billion — earnings coverage of the 2026 second-quarter report, checked October 10, 2026, summarised in our own words; a chief-executive open-market purchase of 141,000 shares at a weighted average of $70.96, roughly $10.0 million, on September 10, 2026 — Reuters reporting carried in market coverage, checked October 10, 2026; a roughly $2.3 billion cash agreement to acquire ezCater and Pony.ai robotaxi testing planned in London with a goal of autonomous operations in 15 cities by the end of 2026 — market coverage, checked October 10, 2026; analyst targets (Citizens JMP Market Outperform, $100, reaffirmed October 9, 2026; Wolfe Research $110; Melius Research Sell, $73) and a next earnings date of November 3, 2026 — market coverage, checked October 10, 2026; search-attention ranking (Uber seventeenth at 107 Reddit mentions, with the sixteen higher-ranked names all previously covered or skipped in this series) — AltIndex, checked October 10, 2026.
