RESEARCH — THE FILING TAPE #143

Five of 147: Two New Positions Are 90.5% of the Superinvestors' Aptiv Stake. Its Insiders Bought $8.25 Million in 90 Days.

October 21, 2026

GetCoattail Research — The Filing Tape #143. Aptiv has been one of the most searched-for stocks on Zacks.com lately, and the filings behind that attention describe a register that was rebuilt in a single quarter: 5 of the 147 superinvestors held the common stock at June 30, 2026, and two new positions — Viking Global Investors and Slate Path Capital — are 7,203,002 of its 7,958,867 tracked shares, 90.5%. Inside the company, insiders recorded six purchases worth $8,254,508.40 in 90 days, against no sales.

The Hype

Aptiv's attention is search-driven. Zacks reported on October 20, 2026 that the stock "has recently been on Zacks.com's list of the most searched stocks," with shares returning +2.1% over the past month against +0.7% for the Zacks S&P 500 composite, while the Zacks Technology Services industry lost 9.5%, and the current-quarter consensus estimate stands at $1.33 per share, down 38.7% from a year earlier, after a 0.3% cut to the consensus over the last 30 days. Zacks Our price file adds the longer path: Aptiv fell 11.6% in the second quarter, from $69.44 on March 31 to $61.38 on June 30, and kept falling to $44.56 by October 6 — down 27.4% from the quarter-end close, down 41.4% year to date, down 49.1% from a year ago and 49.7% below its 252-session high close of $88.67, set on January 9, 2026. An auto-parts supplier with falling estimates and a halved price: the filings answer who holds it, and what insiders have done.

The Tape

For Aptiv — the one hundred and forty-third Filing Tape audit — the tape shows a tracked register rebuilt by two new positions, a full market that added shares while shedding filers, an insider record with purchases and no recent sales, a single recorded congressional purchase, a 5% register whose maximum is 7.5%, and a borrow that dropped 30.95% at the latest settlement.

Lens 1 — the superinvestors: five holders, and 90.5% of the stake arrived this quarter. We track 149 managers whose 13F portfolios we collect from SEC EDGAR — 147 are in the collection (144 at a June 30 period-end, 3 early filers at September 30, none of them holding this name) — and the June 30, 2026 register for the common stock (CUSIP G3265R107) is 5 distinct managers holding 7,958,867 shares worth $488,515,257, long only, with no option rows: three rows are labelled INCREASED and two are NEW, and one holder exited during the quarter. Viking Global Investors is the register's largest holder and a new position: 4,552,887 shares worth $279,456,204 — 57.2% of the tracked stake — at a 0.80% portfolio weight (filed August 14, 2026). The second holder, Slate Path Capital, is also new, with 2,650,115 shares — 33.3% of the tracked stake, at a 2.25% weight — so the two new positions together are 7,203,002 shares, 90.5% of the cohort. The register's movement is verified, not just labelled: all 3 continuing holders reconcile row by row, and together they held 600,770 shares at March 31 and 755,865 at June 30, a rise of 25.8%. The largest of them, Alex Roepers - Atlantic Investment Management, holds 453,842 shares, labelled INCREASED at +40.5%, at a 14.51% portfolio weight. The one exit is Sarah Ketterer - Causeway Capital Management, which held 683,463 shares at March 31 — more than any continuing holder holds now. With the exit counted, the full register reconciles with no residual (methodology). The June rows imply $61.38, the June 30 close (methodology). 13F figures are as of June 30, 2026, published up to 45 days later.

Aptiv through six filing lenses
Chart 1: Signal presence by cohort (n = 5 superinvestor common-stock holders among 147 managers, at Jun 30, 2026, long only; no option rows; no September 30, 2026 early filer holds this name). Superinvestors: 2026Q2 13F collection, as of Jun 30, 2026. Institutions: full-market 13F aggregation, Jun 30, 2026 (n = 660 filers). Insiders: Form 4 through Oct 2, 2026 (n = 75 filings). Congress: PTR aggregates through Oct 3, 2026 (Senate through Oct 1, 2026). 13D/G: parsed filings on the main CUSIP through Aug 12, 2026 (n = 6 filings). Short interest: FINRA settlements through Sep 15, 2026 (n = 137 settlements, symbol APTV only). Source: SEC EDGAR; FINRA; GetCoattail collections.

Lens 2 — institutions: fewer filers, a quarter more shares. At June 30, 2026, 660 institutions reported positions on the name's two CUSIPs, down 29 from 689 at March 31 (−4.21%); 656 are long. Reported shares rose 24.99% to 206,014,206 (+41,190,571 shares), and reported value rose 13.22% to $12,572,804,013, labelled "reported" because the aggregate includes option rows (methodology), in a quarter when the price fell 11.6%. Flow counts agree (614 entered, 643 exited, net −29). The market sits almost entirely on the main CUSIP: 656 filers hold 205,931,470 shares there, implying $61.05 against the $61.38 close. The second CUSIP (G6095L109) is a legacy stub line — 5 filers, 82,736 shares, $358,331 reported — whose implied price of about $4.33 is not the traded common price and is never blended into the main line (methodology). Against the by-ticker total, the tracked cohort's 7,958,867 shares are 3.86% of reported institutional shares.

Lens 3 — insiders: six purchases, no sales, in the last 90 days. The parsed Form 4 record holds 75 filings through October 2, 2026. Across the full record there are 8 open-market purchases (181,721 shares for $8,903,579.00, by 4 buyers, 1 of them an officer purchase) against 16 sales (116,488 shares for $8,834,998.60, by 7 sellers). The last 90 days hold 6 purchases (171,921 shares for $8,254,508.40, by 4 buyers, including one officer purchase of $2,502,684.22) against no sales at all — and the last year holds all 8 recorded purchases, against 7 sales worth $4,015,594.60, so every purchase in the record sits inside the last year, most inside the last 90 days. The purchases imply $48.01 per share over the last 90 days and $49.00 over the full record — every cited purchase and sales figure sits inside its window's close range (methodology). The site's insider aggregate records the same 90-day counts and values, and flags a chief-executive purchase and a large purchase, with the last purchase dated August 13, 2026 (methodology).

Lens 4 — Congress: one purchase, on the Senate side. The combined aggregate (as of October 3, 2026) carries a row for this name recording 1 member, 1 purchase and 0 sales, with the last purchase dated July 9, 2026 and the party field reading R; the Senate aggregate (as of October 1, 2026) carries the same row, and the House aggregate carries no row — so the single recorded transaction sits on the Senate side, and no sale is recorded in any of the three aggregates.

Lens 5 — the 5% register: six passive filings, maximum 7.5%. Our full parse holds 6 SC 13D/G filings on the main CUSIP matching the site aggregate exactly — 0 SC 13D family and 6 SC 13G family (3 SC 13G, 3 amendments); 7 reporter names across 12 rows. The maximum is Vanguard Capital Management at 15,992,284 shares and 7.5% as of March 31, 2026 (filed April 27, 2026, SC 13G). The latest filing is Barrow Hanley Mewhinney & Strauss LLC at 10,796,391 shares and 5.1% as of June 30, 2026 (filed August 12, 2026). A second CUSIP carries one further filing, a zero-share line disclosed separately (methodology). There is no activist-form filing in the register.

Lens 6 — short interest: a sharp drop at the latest settlement, still above a year ago. The latest FINRA settlement, September 15, 2026, records 7,383,432 shares sold short at 2.09 days to cover, down 30.95% from the prior settlement — 3.56% of the share count in our fundamentals file (dated July 31, 2026). The series peak across all 137 settlements is 36,462,158 shares, set on August 15, 2024, so the latest reading sits 79.8% below that peak; it is also 25.7% below the June 30, 2026 settlement (9,933,584 shares) and 48.7% above the year-ago settlement (4,964,633 shares on September 15, 2025). The recent path runs 9,933,584 (June 30), 11,671,859 (July 15), 11,067,614 (July 31), 9,328,977 (August 14), 10,692,442 (August 31) and 7,383,432 (September 15) — a July bulge, two mixed settlements, then a sharp drop. One step in the full series reaches 2x, at the peak settlement itself (methodology).

Short interest in Aptiv
Chart 2: Shares sold short in APTV at each FINRA biweekly settlement, Jan 15, 2021 – Sep 15, 2026 (n = 137 settlements, symbol APTV only; the issuer-name field reads "Aptiv PLC" throughout, on a single market class, NYSE). The series maximum, 36,462,158 shares, was set on Aug 15, 2024. The latest reading, 7,383,432 shares on Sep 15, 2026, sits 79.8% below that peak, 25.7% below the Jun 30, 2026 settlement and 48.7% above the year-ago settlement. Our price file records no split entries for this name and no settlement carries a split flag, so the full series is shown on one basis; one settlement step, at Aug 15, 2024, rises 4.580x and is flagged in the methodology. The Gap

The narrative arriving this week is a search-and-estimates one: a most-searched supplier whose current-quarter consensus has been cut 38.7% year over year, inside an industry down 9.5% in a month, while the stock itself has halved in a year. The June tape describes sponsorship that is new rather than broad. Five tracked managers hold the name, but 90.5% of their shares arrived as two new positions in a single quarter, the three continuing holders together hold 755,865 shares, and the quarter's largest single tracked move out was Causeway's exit of 683,463 shares. The broad market moved the same way on breadth: 29 fewer filers reported, even as reported shares rose 24.99%. The insider lens runs against the price, not with it — six purchases worth $8,254,508.40 in 90 days and no sales, by four buyers, at prices implying about $48 a share while the stock traded down toward $43.02 — but it is a small sum next to a $12,572,804,013 institutional register. Against that, the borrow fell 30.95% at the latest settlement yet remains 48.7% above its year-ago level, and the 5% register holds nothing activist: its maximum is 7.5%. One plausible reading is that the filings describe a register being rebuilt by a few new buyers and by insiders, on a stock the estimates and the year-ago borrow describe very differently.
