RESEARCH — THE FILING TAPE #141

One of 147: Fundsmith Is the Superinvestors' Only Nextpower Holder — a New Position. Its Insiders Have Never Bought a Share.

October 21, 2026

GetCoattail Research — The Filing Tape #141. Nextpower has been one of the most searched-for stocks on Zacks.com lately, and the filings behind that attention describe a register with exactly one tracked name on it: 1 of the 147 superinvestors held the common stock at June 30, 2026 — Terry Smith - Fundsmith, with a new position of 2,856,092 shares. A quarter earlier the register's only holder was a different manager entirely, Axiom Investors, with 147,341 shares, and it exited. Inside the company, the record is one-sided in the other direction: across 118 Form 4 filings, insiders have recorded 58 sales and not one open-market purchase.

The Hype

Nextpower's attention is search-driven. Zacks reported on October 20, 2026 that the stock "has been one of the most searched-for stocks on Zacks.com lately," with shares returning −4.2% over the past month against +0.7% for the Zacks S&P 500 composite, the Zacks Solar industry down 13.8% over the same period, and a current-quarter consensus earnings estimate of $1.11 per share, down 6.7% from a year earlier. Zacks Our price file tells a starker story: Nextpower slipped just 1.2% in the second quarter, from $120.55 on March 31 to $119.14 on June 30, and has since fallen to $84.30 by October 2 — down 29.2% from the quarter-end close, down 3.2% year to date, up 6.2% from a year ago and 46.1% below its 252-session high close of $156.40, set on May 29, 2026. A solar-equipment supplier whose price has nearly halved from its spring high, drawing search traffic again: the filings answer who holds it, who left, and whether anyone inside the company has ever bought.

The Tape

For Nextpower — the one hundred and forty-first Filing Tape audit — the tape shows a tracked register whose single seat changed hands entirely, a full market that added filers while shedding shares, an insider record with sales and no purchases at all, no congressional row, a passive-only 5% register topped by a 17.6% print, and a borrow that rebuilt by a quarter over the summer.

Lens 1 — the superinvestors: one holder, and it is a new one. We track 149 managers whose 13F portfolios we collect from SEC EDGAR — 147 are in the collection (144 at a June 30 period-end, 3 early filers at September 30, none holding this name at September 30, so there is no period split) — and the June 30, 2026 register for the common stock (CUSIP 65290E101) is 1 distinct manager holding 2,856,092 shares worth $340,274,801, long only, with no option rows: the single row is labelled NEW, and one holder exited during the quarter. Terry Smith - Fundsmith is the register's only holder: 2,856,092 shares worth $340,274,801 — 100.0% of the tracked stake — at a 2.49% portfolio weight, labelled NEW (filed August 14, 2026). There are no continuing holders to verify: the March 31 register was also a single row, Axiom Investors with 147,341 shares (a $17,761,958 position at March 31 values), and Axiom exited in full. The register therefore rose from 147,341 shares to 2,856,092 shares — a change of +1,838.4% that says more about how small the March base was than about the size of the June position, which is why this audit leads with the share counts themselves. The register reconciles with no residual in either quarter. The one common row implies $119.14, the June 30 close (methodology). 13F figures are as of June 30, 2026, published up to 45 days later.

Nextpower through six filing lenses
Chart 1: Signal presence by cohort (n = 1 superinvestor common-stock holder among 147 managers, at Jun 30, 2026, long only; no option rows; no September 30, 2026 early filer holds this name). Superinvestors: 2026Q2 13F collection, as of Jun 30, 2026. Institutions: full-market 13F aggregation, Jun 30, 2026 (n = 721 filers). Insiders: Form 4 through Oct 2, 2026 (n = 118 filings). Congress: PTR aggregates through Oct 3, 2026 (Senate through Oct 1, 2026) — no row for this name. 13D/G: parsed filings through Aug 6, 2026 (n = 11 filings). Short interest: FINRA settlements through Sep 15, 2026 (n = 87 settlements, symbol NXT only). Source: SEC EDGAR; FINRA; GetCoattail collections.

Lens 2 — institutions: more filers, fewer shares. At June 30, 2026, 721 institutions reported positions, up 26 from 695 at March 31 (+3.74%); 716 are long. Reported shares nevertheless fell 1.50% to 153,748,824 (−2,345,345 shares), and reported value fell 1.55% to $17,783,184,446, labelled "reported" because the aggregate includes option rows (methodology), in a quarter when the price fell 1.2%. Flow counts agree (675 entered, 649 exited, net +26), and the single-CUSIP breakdown matches the by-ticker aggregate on every field (methodology). Against that total, the tracked cohort's 2,856,092 shares are 1.86% of reported institutional shares.

Lens 3 — insiders: sales only, across the whole record. The parsed Form 4 record holds 118 filings through October 2, 2026, and its purchase side is empty: 0 open-market purchases by 0 buyers — in the last 90 days, in the last year, and across the full record. The sales side is populated at every horizon: the last 90 days hold 9 sales (100,431 shares for $10,039,534.73, by 5 sellers, 5 of them officer sales); the last year holds 38 sales (473,821 shares for $52,576,786.53, by 9 sellers, 32 of them officer sales); and the full record holds 58 sales (778,282 shares for $70,368,660.98, by 9 sellers, 51 of them officer sales). The sales imply $99.96 per share over the last 90 days, $110.96 over the last year and $90.42 across the full record — every cited sales figure sits inside its window's close range (methodology). The site's insider aggregate, on a later window, records the same 90-day sales counts and values (methodology).

Lens 4 — Congress: no row. The combined aggregate (as of October 3, 2026), the House aggregate (same date) and the Senate aggregate (as of October 1, 2026) each carry no row for this name — an absence of any row, not a count of zero trades asserted from one.

Lens 5 — the 5% register: eleven passive filings, maximum 17.6%. Our full parse holds 11 SC 13D/G filings matching the site aggregate exactly — 0 SC 13D family and 11 SC 13G family (2 SC 13G, 9 amendments); 6 reporter names across 16 rows. The maximum is BlackRock, Inc. at 25,229,536 shares and 17.6% as of December 31, 2024 (filed February 5, 2025, SC 13G/A). The latest is FMR LLC at 18,749,214.57 shares and 12.4% as of June 30, 2026 (filed August 6, 2026, SC 13G/A), and BlackRock also prints 17,841,627 shares and 11.9% as of the same June 30 date (filed July 29, 2026). FMR's prints are co-reported with Abigail P. Johnson, and one file, from The Vanguard Group, prints 0 shares (methodology).

Lens 6 — short interest: rebuilt over the summer, still below the peak. The latest FINRA settlement, September 15, 2026, records 8,779,581 shares sold short at 4.64 days to cover, down 2.17% from the prior settlement. The series peak across all 87 settlements is 13,245,821 shares, set on September 30, 2024, so the latest reading sits 33.7% below that peak; it is also 23.6% above the June 30, 2026 settlement (7,103,121 shares) and 0.6% above the year-ago settlement (8,728,185 shares on September 15, 2025). The recent path runs 7,103,121 (June 30), 7,205,710 (July 15), 8,352,752 (July 31), 8,868,912 (August 14), 8,974,036 (August 31) and 8,779,581 (September 15) — four rises in a row, then a small fall. The only steps of 2x or more in the series are two settlements in its first seven weeks after the February 2023 listing, and no step falls to half (methodology).

Short interest in Nextpower
Chart 2: Shares sold short in NXT at each FINRA biweekly settlement, Feb 15, 2023 – Sep 15, 2026 (n = 87 settlements, symbol NXT only; the issuer-name field appears in three spellings — "Nextracker Inc. Class A Common", "Nextpower Inc. Class A Common" and "Nextpower Inc. Common Stock" — all for this issuer across its name change). The series maximum, 13,245,821 shares, was set on Sep 30, 2024. The latest reading, 8,779,581 shares on Sep 15, 2026, sits 33.7% below that peak, 23.6% above the Jun 30, 2026 settlement and 0.6% above the year-ago settlement. Our price file records no split entries for this name; the only settlement steps of 2x or more in the series fall in February–March 2023, its first seven weeks, and no step falls to one-half, so the full series is shown on one basis. The Gap

The narrative arriving this week is a search-and-estimates one: a most-searched solar name whose consensus estimate has been trimmed, after a month in which it trailed the index by less than its industry did. The June tape shows a thinner register than that attention suggests. The tracked cohort has exactly one member, and it arrived this quarter: Fundsmith's 2,856,092-share position is new, the previous sole holder is gone, and no other tracked manager — of 147 — holds a single common share. The broad market is broader but not bigger: 26 more filers reported, yet the shares they reported fell 1.50% and the reported value fell with them. Inside the company there is no counterweight at all: 58 recorded sales and zero purchases is not a mixed insider record, it is an empty one on the buy side, at every horizon we can measure. The 5% register is passive and top-heavy — two managers print above 11% as of June 30 — and the borrow rebuilt 23.6% over the summer even as the price fell 29.2% from the quarter-end close, though it remains 33.7% below its September 2024 peak. One plausible reading is that the filings describe sponsorship that is narrow and recent rather than broad and settled: one tracked buyer, no insider buyers ever, and a rising borrow against a falling price.

What Would Change the Picture

Nothing above is a recommendation. These filings would change it:
