GetCoattail Research — The Filing Tape #166. GE Vernova has recently been on Zacks.com's list of the most searched stocks, where it carries a Rank #3 (Hold). The filings show 19 tracked holders of 147 whose verified continuing positions fell 5.5% in a quarter when the price rose 34.6%, a full market holding 17.57% more shares, and an insider record with no purchase-coded row at all.
The Hype
The attention is search traffic on a spun-off energy name whose estimates point in two directions at once. Zacks reports that GE Vernova "has recently been on Zacks.com's list of the most searched stocks," with shares down 2.7% over the past month against no change in the Zacks S&P 500 composite, while its Zacks Alternative Energy - Other industry lost 4.4%. Zacks, October 22, 2026 The same note shows the split inside the estimates: the current-quarter consensus is $4.03 a share, up 145.7% year over year but revised down 3.3% in 30 days; the full-year estimate is $30.50, up 72.4%; the next-year estimate is $24.12, down 20.9%; and Zacks assigns Rank #3 (Hold) with a Value Style Score of D. The last reported quarter printed revenue of $11.1 billion, up 21.9%, and EPS of $2.47 against $1.86 a year earlier — beating the revenue consensus by 3.12% and missing the EPS consensus by 22.08%. Our own price file, which ends October 2, shows the longer arc: the stock rose 34.6% in Q2 ($872.90 on March 31 to $1,174.86 on June 30), then fell 15.8% to $988.70 at October 2 — 80.4% above the 252-day low close of $547.96 (November 4, 2025).
The Tape
For GE Vernova, the one hundred and sixty-sixth Filing Tape audit, the tape shows 19 tracked managers whose verified continuing positions fell 5.5% even as five new positions opened, a full market that added 31,428,029 shares across 360 more filers, an insider record with five sales and no purchase at all, one House sale and no Senate row, a 5% register that is entirely passive SC 13G paper, and a borrow of 3.29% that has fallen a quarter from its June peak.

Lens 1 — the superinvestors: nineteen holders, one of them 48.8% of the stake. The collection holds 147 managers (144 at June 30; 3 early filers at September 30). The June 30, 2026 register is 19 distinct managers holding 5,244,812 shares worth $6,161,919,608, long only, with no option rows. The largest is Coatue Management, 2,558,164 shares, 48.8% of the cohort, at a 6.18% weight, labelled DECREASED at −0.6%. Behind it sit Chase Coleman - Tiger Global Management (797,511 shares, 15.2%, DECREASED −18.0%), Axiom Investors (411,058 shares, INCREASED +47.5%), Terry Smith - Fundsmith (409,835 shares, NEW) and Winslow Capital Management (360,801 shares, DECREASED −32.4%) — seven decreases, four increases, three unchanged, five new positions, the two largest together at 64.0% of the cohort. Every continuing label verifies under both pairing methods: the fourteen continuing holders held 4,906,356 shares at March 31 and 4,636,879 at June 30, a verified change of −5.5% (−269,477 shares), in a quarter when the price rose 34.6%. All five NEW labels audit as genuine, and the five new positions total 607,933 shares, led by Fundsmith's 409,835. One tracked manager exited (Check Capital Management, 901 shares at March 31). One September early filer holds the name: Montrusco Bolton Investments, 87,243 shares at September 30, INCREASED +15.5% against a verified June register row of 75,528 shares. The June cohort's implied price is $1,174.86, exactly the June 30 close; at 2.49% of reported institutional shares the cohort is a small sample of this register. 13F figures are as of June 30, 2026, published up to 45 days later.
Lens 2 — institutions: 360 more filers, 31.4 million more shares. At June 30, 2026, 3,426 institutions reported positions on the name's single CUSIP, up 360 from 3,066 at March 31 (+11.74%); 3,405 are long. Reported shares rose 17.57% to 210,309,420 (+31,428,029 shares), while reported value rose 57.80% to $255,830,253,240, labelled "reported" because the aggregate includes option rows (methodology). The aggregate implies $1,216.45 against the $1,174.86 close (+3.54%). The share count is the cleaner measure: a sixth more stock reported by a wider crowd, in the same quarter the tracked continuing cohort cut 5.5% and the price rose 34.6%.
Lens 3 — insiders: five sales, and no purchase-coded row anywhere on the record. The parsed Form 4 record holds 57 filings (February 11, 2025 – June 3, 2026), inside windows running through October 2, 2026. The last 90 days (a filing-date window, per the aggregate's own definition) hold no filings at all. The last year holds no purchase-coded rows and 3 sale-coded rows totalling 12,452 shares and $11,544,654.49, all officer rows: Steven Baert, chief people officer, sold 5,300 shares on March 3, 2026; Matthew Joseph Potvin, chief accounting officer, sold 2,333 shares (transacted May 14, filed May 18, 2026); and Victor Abate, chief executive officer of the Wind business, sold 4,819 shares (transacted June 1, filed June 3, 2026). The full record holds exactly two more sales and still no purchase — Maria Victoria Zingoni, chief executive officer of the Power business, sold 18,803 shares in April 2025, and Kenneth Scott Parks, chief financial officer, sold 3,300 shares in August 2025 — 0 purchases and 5 sales in all, stated with that record's span.
Lens 4 — Congress: one House sale, no Senate row. The combined aggregate (as of October 3, 2026) carries 1 sale and 0 purchases for this ticker, and the House aggregate carries the same single sale. The House member file holds one row: Matthew Robert Van Epps (R), one sale, most recent transaction date June 16, 2026, in the $1,001 - $15,000 amount band. The Senate aggregate and the Senate member file carry no row for this ticker. The combined aggregate's member count prints zero even though the House member file carries the Van Epps row; both are reported here as collected.
Lens 5 — the 5% register: entirely passive, and its maximum print is dated 2024. Our full parse holds 6 SC 13D/G filings: 2 SC 13G and 4 SC 13G/A amendments, and no SC 13D at all, carrying 7 reporter rows from 5 reporting entities. The register maximum as printed is The Vanguard Group, 23,958,951 shares and 8.69%, in an SC 13G/A filed January 30, 2025 as of December 31, 2024 — a share count that is 9.00% of the 266,333,581 shares in our fundamentals file, so the percentage and the count sit in the same range on this name, but the print itself is dated to the end of 2024. The fresh prints are dated March 31, 2026: Vanguard Capital Management prints 20,150,500 shares and 7.47% (SC 13G filed April 29, 2026), and FMR LLC prints 18,316,285.2 shares and 6.8% in an SC 13G/A filed May 6, 2026 — the register's latest filing — with Abigail P. Johnson printing the same position in the same filing, the fund and its control person reporting one position twice. The Vanguard Group prints 0 shares and 0.0% as of March 13, 2026.
Lens 6 — short interest: 3.29% of a measured share count, a quarter below its June peak. The latest FINRA settlement, September 15, 2026, records 8,757,218 shares sold short at 4.57 days to cover, 3.29% of the share count in our fundamentals file (a measured period-end count, methodology). The borrow was nearly flat against the prior settlement (−0.07%), sits 25.0% below the June 30, 2026 settlement (11,681,775 shares) — which is also the maximum of the whole series — and 18.9% above the year-ago settlement (7,368,173 shares). The series minimum is 3,388,393 shares at February 14, 2025. The summer's path: 11,681,775 (June 30), 10,117,771 (July 15), 8,528,212 (July 31), 7,936,921 (August 14), 8,763,426 (August 31), 8,757,218 (September 15) — three settlements down from the June peak, then two nearly flat.
The Gap
The search story is a Hold label on a falling month: Rank #3, the current-quarter estimate revised down 3.3% in a month, a Value Score of D, and a stock down 2.7% over the same month. The filings underneath describe the quarter before that fall, and the widest crowd in them moved with the price, not against it. In Q2, when the price rose 34.6%, the full market reported 17.57% more shares across 360 more filers, while the tracked continuing holders cut a verified 5.5% — seven of the fourteen decreased, led by Winslow's −32.4% and Tiger Global's −18.0% — even as five new tracked positions opened. Since June the price has fallen 15.8%, and the borrow has fallen 25.0% from its June 30 settlement, the series maximum. Congress has recorded a single small House sale and nothing else; the 5% register is passive paper only, its largest print dated December 2024; and the insider record is one-directional at every horizon this audit can see: no purchase-coded row in 57 filings, against five officer sales totalling $20,513,166.97. One plausible reading is that the October search interest is an estimates argument about a name after a steep round trip — up 34.6%, then down 15.8% — while the record shows the broad market adding shares during the rise, tracked continuing holders trimming into it, new tracked names entering at the same time, and insiders who have sold five times and never bought on the record we hold.
What Would Change the Picture
Nothing above is a recommendation. These filings would change it:
- 1. The 2026Q3 13F season (filing window closing mid-November 2026). The baseline is 19 June holders with 5,244,812 shares, the continuing holders verified at −5.5%, Coatue at 48.8% of the cohort, five genuine new positions, one tracked exit, and one September early filer (Montrusco Bolton, +15.5% at September 30) already holding the name. Whether Coatue adds after standing nearly still in a +34.6% quarter, whether the five new holders add or vanish, and whether Winslow and Tiger Global keep cutting after the 15.8% fall would change this lens.
- 2. A first insider purchase — or a further officer sale. The parsed record through the October 2 window end holds 0 purchases and 5 sales, and no filing at all since June 3, 2026. A first purchase-coded row would break the record's only absolute; a further sale near Zingoni's 18,803-share April 2025 lot would extend its dominant direction.
- 3. A further congressional trade. The House side holds one sale in the smallest amount band and the Senate side holds no row. Any recorded Senate trade, or a House purchase, would change this lens.
- 4. A first SC 13D, or a fresh passive print above 8.69%. The register holds no SC 13D and its maximum print is dated December 31, 2024. An original SC 13D from any reporter, or a new SC 13G print above the Vanguard Group maximum with a current date, would change this lens.
- 5. Short interest above 11,681,775 shares, or below 7,368,173. Above the June 30, 2026 settlement would set a new series high; below the year-ago settlement would unwind the year-over-year build.
Methodology and data notes
- As-of & limits: The lenses rest on different clocks, none live: 13F is a June 30, 2026 snapshot published up to 45 days later; Form 4 windows run through October 2, 2026 (the last GE Vernova filing in the parsed record is itself dated June 3, 2026); Congress aggregates run through October 3, 2026 (Senate through October 1, 2026); 13D/G through May 6, 2026; short interest through September 15, 2026; the price file ends October 2, 2026. Ten limits are specific to this audit. First, the roster expanded before the recent audits — from 85 managers (83 filing) to 149 (147 filing) — so "of 147" counts are not comparable to earlier pieces' "of 83" figures. Second, this name's common stock carries a single CUSIP (36828A101), and the full-market by-CUSIP row matches the by-ticker aggregate on every field — holders, long holders, shares, reported value, prior holders and prior reported value — so no CUSIP blending question arises. Third, the tracked register's change labels are verified, not taken on trust: all fourteen continuing holders were verified by two methods that agree exactly — a total-value prefix pass and accession identity plus CUSIP-overlap pairing, each June filing paired to a unique March filing, with every label recomputing exactly and no fallback lookup needed. The five NEW labels were audited separately: for four of the five, no March filing under the manager's own filing prefix contains this CUSIP at all; for the fifth, Polen Capital Management, whose filing agent's shared prefix covers many managers' March accessions — four of which do carry this CUSIP, each belonging to another tracked manager whose own label recomputes exactly — the March accession paired to Polen's own June filing by CUSIP overlap contains no row for this CUSIP, so all five are reported as genuine new positions. One September early filer holds this name (Montrusco Bolton Investments), and its September label was verified the same way, against its own June register row of 75,528 shares; one tracked exit (Check Capital Management, 901 shares at March 31) is recorded. The registers then reconcile with no remainder: the March 31 register holds 4,907,257 shares, equal to the verified continuing holders' 4,906,356 plus the exited holder's 901; the June 30 register holds 5,320,340 shares, equal to the June cohort's 5,244,812 plus the early filer's June register row of 75,528. That is why the register total rises 8.4% while the verified continuing cohort falls 5.5%: the difference is the five new positions and the early filer's row, and both figures are printed wherever either is used. Fourth, implied prices are exact on the tracked side: the June cohort implies $1,174.86 against the June 30 close of $1,174.86 (0.00%), and the September early filer's holding implies $950.49 against the September 30 close of $950.49 (0.00%). Fifth, the full-market aggregate implies $1,216.45 against the June 30 close of $1,174.86 (+3.54%): the aggregate is a reported sum that includes option rows, so its implied price need not equal the close; this audit uses filer counts and share counts as this lens's primary measures and reports the value as reported only. Sixth, the insider lens rests on a single aggregate bucket — this issuer's filings sit under one symbol spelling, "GEV", with no case split — cross-checked against a row-level scan of all 57 parsed filings for the issuer (CIK 1996810): filing counts, transaction counts, share counts, officer-row counts and values reproduce exactly in every window, with a value difference of $0.00 in all three windows and no accession appearing under more than one symbol spelling. On that record, every insider implied-price check that applies passes: the one-year implied sale price of $927.13 and the full-record implied sale price of $593.64 each sit inside their filing-window close ranges; no window holds a purchase row, so no implied-price check applies on the buy side, and the 90-day window holds no rows at all. The site's insider aggregate (dated October 23, 2026, a 90-day window ending that day) carries no row for this name, which is consistent with the full parse's empty 90-day window rather than a contradiction of it; this audit uses the full parse, whose window is defined in the aggregate file itself. Form 4 windows in this audit are filing-date windows; the recent sales were transacted between March 3 and June 1, 2026 and filed between March 3 and June 3, 2026. Seventh, the congressional lens is reported across five files: the combined aggregate, the House aggregate, the Senate aggregate, the House member file (transactions dated on or after April 1, 2026) and the Senate member file (same window). The combined and House aggregates each carry one sale and no purchase; the House member file carries the one Van Epps row behind it; the Senate files carry no row. The combined aggregate's member count prints zero alongside that member-file row, an inconsistency inside the aggregates as collected, and both figures are reported here rather than reconciled by assumption. Eighth, the 5% register's maximum print needs its date in full: the Vanguard Group SC 13G/A (filed January 30, 2025) prints 23,958,951 shares at 8.69% as of December 31, 2024, and that share count is 9.00% of the 266,333,581 shares in our fundamentals file, so on this name the printed percentage and the share count are in the same range and no mismatch flag applies — but the print is the oldest-dated of the register's large prints, and the freshest prints (Vanguard Capital Management at 7.47% and FMR LLC at 6.8%, both as of March 31, 2026) sit below it. The register's cross-date share total of 108,778,980.4 is likewise an arithmetic sum of 7 reporter rows across different reporters and as-of dates, including one reporter's own 0-share print and the same FMR position printed by both the fund and its control person, and is not a current combined stake; each print is reported individually in the text. Parsed totals match the aggregates exactly, the register holds no SC 13D filing, and every filing is in the SC 13G family. Ninth, the short-interest series is short by construction: it holds 59 settlements beginning April 15, 2024, the first settlement in our files after this company's 2024 spin-off listing, so its maximum and minimum describe that span only. Within it, no settlement steps to 2x or more of the prior settlement and none steps to one-half or less (the largest step is 1.566x, at May 15, 2024; the smallest is 0.642x, at July 15, 2024), so the series carries no discontinuity on this measure. No row carries a split flag and no row carries a FINRA revision flag. The issuer-name field reads "GE Vernova Inc." at all 59 settlements, on a single market class (NYSE) throughout. The share count behind the short-interest percentage is 266,333,581 shares in our fundamentals file, and unlike a weighted-average fallback it is a measured count (the file's shares_source reads dei/EntityCommonStockSharesOutstanding and its shares_end reads "2026-06-30"), so the 3.29% figure rests on that measured denominator. Our price file records no single-day close move across the thresholds this audit normally treats as split patterns, and records no split factor for this name; the file itself begins March 27, 2024, at the spin-off listing. The company's fundamentals as collected print fiscal 2025 revenue of $38,068,000,000, net income of $4,884,000,000 and assets of $63,016,000,000; those figures are reported as collected and are not used in any lens above. Every price statement from our own file is mechanical, a date and a close. The Zacks figures in The Hype — the search ranking, the past-month return and the consensus estimates — are that outlet's published figures, cited as such, not blended into file-based calculations.
