RESEARCH — THE FILING TAPE #187

Two of 147: Viking Is 99.3% of the Tracked Hasbro Stake — Labelled New, It Cut 16.9% in Q2.

October 25, 2026

GetCoattail Research — The Filing Tape #187. Hasbro, Inc. (HAS) reported Q3 2026 results on October 20, 2026 — adjusted EPS of $2.90, up 72.6% and 55.9% above the $1.86 consensus; revenue of $1.6 billion, up 15%; Magic: The Gathering revenue of $616.1 million, up 34%, its first quarter above $600 million — and raised its full-year outlook while doubling its buyback target to $400 million. The stock rose 11.2% that day on 4.7x average volume and closed October 22 at $117.23, two cents below its 52-week high. Zacks added Hasbro to its Strong Buy list on October 23. The filings show a different clock: 2 of 147 tracked funds held 3,129,664 Hasbro shares ($258.5 million reported) on June 30, 2026, and the verified cohort cut 17.3% in Q2 — Viking Global Investors is 99.3% of that stake, labelled "new," but its own Q1 filing shows it held 3,738,902 shares and cut 16.9%; insiders recorded zero open-market buys in the entire parsed Form 4 record (January 2025 – October 2026) against $50.2 million of sales in the past year; Congress filed nothing; the 5% register is all passive, led by BlackRock Portfolio Management at 12.8%; and short interest is 5.14% of shares outstanding, up 90.9% year-over-year but easing since June.

① The Hype

Hasbro had the kind of week toy companies dream about. On October 20, 2026, the Pawtucket games maker reported third-quarter results that beat almost everything analysts had pencilled in: adjusted earnings of $2.90 per share, up 72.6% and $1.04 above the $1.86 consensus; revenue of $1.6 billion, up 15%. The engine was Wizards of the Coast — revenue up 31% — and inside it, Magic: The Gathering, whose $616.1 million quarter (up 34%) was the first time the thirty-year-old card game crossed $600 million in a single quarter. Management raised the full-year outlook to 7–9% constant-currency revenue growth with a 27–28% adjusted operating margin, and doubled the year's share-repurchase target from $200 million to $400 million.

The tape reacted immediately. Hasbro closed October 19 at $98.49 and October 20 at $109.52 — an 11.2% single-day gain on 8.0 million shares, 4.7 times the average volume of the 60 trading days before October 20 (1,708,058 shares). The climb continued: $114.00 on October 21, $117.23 on October 22 — two cents below the 52-week high and 21.4% above where it traded 126 sessions earlier. On October 23, Zacks added Hasbro to its Rank #1 (Strong Buy) list, citing a current-year consensus earnings estimate that had risen 1.9% over 60 days.

The question for this series is the usual one: what do the filings say?

We read Hasbro through GetCoattail's six filing lenses. The table summarizes; the paragraphs give the detail. Every number below comes from our pipeline, not from a press release.

Chart 1: Signal presence by lens (n = 2 superinvestor common-stock holders among 147 managers, at Jun 30, 2026, long only; no option rows; no September-30 early filers; 0 genuine new holders; 0 exits. Superinvestors: 2026Q2 13F collection, as of Jun 30, 2026. Institutions: full-market 13F aggregation, Jun 30, 2026 (n = 774 filers). Superinvestors (13F). Two of the 147 tracked managers held Hasbro common stock on June 30, 2026 — 3,129,664 shares ($258.5 million reported). One number dominates this lens: Viking Global Investors holds 3,107,195 shares, 99.3% of the cohort's position, at $256.6 million reported. The second holder, DJE Kapital, holds 22,469 shares — 0.7%. "The superinvestors own Hasbro" mostly means one fund owns Hasbro.

The direction is the story's turn. Viking's Q2 row carries the label NEW. It is wrong. Pairing Viking's Q2 filing with its Q1 filing under the same filer identity (accession prefix 0001103804, 55 CUSIPs of overlap, a unique match) shows Viking held 3,738,902 shares in Q1 and cut to 3,107,195 in Q2 — −16.9%, recomputed exactly from the register rows. DJE Kapital's DECREASED label checks out: 45,000 → 22,469 shares, −50.1%, also recomputed exactly. Together the verified cohort fell from 3,783,902 to 3,129,664 shares — −17.3%. No genuine new holders, no exits. Both filing registers reconcile to zero residual, and the June cohort's implied price ($82.59) matches the June 30 close to the cent. 13F figures are as of June 30, 2026, the quarter-end. Funds have up to 45 days after quarter-end to file, so this is the most recent complete picture — and it is always a lagging one.

Verified tracked cohort in HAS
Chart 2: Verified share change per tracked manager, Q1 to Q2 2026 (n = 2 continuing holders paired by accession identity and CUSIP-overlap matches, cohort −17.3%; 0 genuine new holders; 0 exits). 13F figures are as of Jun 30, 2026; funds have up to 45 days after quarter-end to file. Source: SEC EDGAR; GetCoattail collection (has_lens_data.csv).

All institutions (13F). The full market moved the other way: 774 filers held 136,942,724 shares ($11.26 billion reported) on June 30 — up 20.1% in shares from Q1 even as the filer count fell by 29 (702 entered, 731 exited). The tracked cohort is 2.29% of those reported shares. The cohort cut while the market added, though the cohort's small weight means its move does not drive the aggregate. The by-CUSIP fixture matches the by-ticker aggregate exactly.

Insiders (Form 4). Through October 2, 2026, Hasbro insiders filed 10 transactions in the last 90 days: zero buys, ten sells — 73,294 shares, $6.91 million. The purchase side stays empty in every window: over the past year, 22 sells totaling $50.16 million and zero buys; across the full parsed record (111 filings, January 2025 – October 2026), 27 sells, zero buys, ten distinct sellers, not one buyer. The 90-day sellers are John Hight (26,008 shares), Timothy J. Kilpin (20,000), Gina M. Goetter (19,265), Holly Barbacovi (5,057), and Elizabeth Hamren (2,964) — four of the five are officers, and eight of the ten transactions are officer sales. The implied sell prices sit inside their filing-window close ranges, and our site's insider aggregate matches the 90-day window exactly. (Insider sales are often routine compensation events; the filing record shows the transactions, not the motives.)

Congress. Nothing. No Hasbro rows in the combined, House, or Senate aggregates, or the member index, for the 2026 disclosure window. Of the six lenses, this is the only one that is completely blank.

13D/G. Thirteen filings from eight reporters, ten amendments — all passive, all SC 13G family, no activist 13D filings. The largest current print is BlackRock Portfolio Management's SC 13G/A at 12.8% (18,171,993 shares, event June 30, 2026, filed July 17, 2026). Vanguard Capital Management filed 7.16% and Vanguard Portfolio Management 5.01% (both April 2026), while The Vanguard Group amended to 0.0 shares / 0.0% (March 2026) — below the reporting threshold. Two register curiosities, reported as filed: Meteora Capital filed 10.8% on just 699,746 shares then amended to 0.0%/0 shares the same day — the percent implies a non-common share-class denominator; and the estate of Alan G. Hassenfeld, Hasbro's longtime chairman who died July 9, 2025, filed a 0.0%/0-share amendment in November 2025. Parsed filings match the aggregate exactly.

Short interest. FINRA settlements through September 15, 2026: 7,252,370 shares — 5.14% of Hasbro's 141.0 million shares outstanding, with 5.41 days to cover. That is down 8.0% from the June 30 settlement and essentially flat (+0.8%) against the prior one, but up 90.9% from a year earlier (3,799,954 shares). The series peaked at 9,867,015 shares in April 2023 — the current level is 26.5% below that peak and well above the September 2024 low of 3,255,307. The short book roughly doubled year-over-year, then eased through the 13F quarter.

③ The Gap

The market's Hasbro story this week is an earnings story: record Magic revenue, a raised outlook, a doubled buyback, an 11.2% single-day pop to within two cents of the 52-week high, and a Strong Buy badge from Zacks. The filings tell a quieter, more concentrated story underneath it.

First, concentration with a false label. The superinvestor register is a one-fund show, and the one fund was shrinking: Viking's "new" position is a filing-system label contradicted by Viking's own Q1 filing — it cut 16.9%, and the two-fund cohort cut 17.3% in the quarter the stock fell 11.8%. Meanwhile the full institutional market added 20.1% of shares. The tracked cohort and the market disagree about Q2's direction.

Second, insiders. While the market repriced Hasbro upward on October 20, the company's own officers and directors have not bought a single share on the open market in the 21 months of our parsed record — 27 sales, zero buys, $50.2 million sold in the past year alone. That is a filing-record description, not an accusation: insider sales are routine compensation events. But the purchase-side absence is total, and it spans the entire record we hold.

Third, the quiet lenses. Congress filed nothing. The 5% register holds no activists — only passive giants, BlackRock Portfolio Management the largest at 12.8%. Short interest, which had roughly doubled year-over-year, eased 8.0% over the quarter rather than spiking into the earnings pop.

One plausible reading is that the filings and the market are looking at different clocks: the 13F register is a June snapshot in an October news cycle, while the insider and short-interest lenses — current through early October and mid-September — show selling insiders and a softening short book. Neither lens contradicts the earnings story; they just don't confirm it either.

④ What Would Change the Picture

Nothing above is a recommendation. It is a record. The picture changes when the filings change. Four things to watch, all observable in future filings:

Check these on Hasbro's page on this site when the next filing cycle lands.

⑤ As-of & Limits

The lenses rest on different clocks, none live: 13F is a June 30, 2026 snapshot published up to 45 days later; Form 4 windows run through October 2, 2026; Congress aggregates run through October 3, 2026 (Senate through October 1, 2026 — no rows); 13D/G through July 17, 2026; short-interest settlements through September 15, 2026; the price file ends October 2, 2026 while the daily-refreshed closes quoted ($117.23 on October 22; 52-week high $117.25) are from October 22, 2026. The tracked cohort is two June holders, and Viking's NEW label was verified false against its own Q1 filing (−16.9%, recomputed). The insider purchase-side zero is a property of the 21-month parsed record, not of all time. The congressional lens is blank across all four sources — a confirmed absence. Full limits, reconciliation detail, and the Hype source list are in the methodology notes below. Download the underlying lens data: has_lens_data.csv, has_short_interest_series.csv.

Methodology and data notes

- As-of & limits: Limits specific to this audit. First, the tracked cohort is two June holders: Viking at 99.3% is the entire story, and its NEW label was verified false against its Q1 filing under the same filer identity (accession prefix 0001103804, 55 CUSIPs of overlap, unique match; recomputed −16.9%). DJE Kapital's −50.1% was recomputed exactly from a uniquely paired accession. Second, both filing registers reconcile to zero residual, and the June cohort's implied price matches the June 30 close to the cent ($82.59). Third, the insider lens rests on a 21-month parsed record (January 2025 – October 2026, 111 filings, issuer CIK 46080): the purchase-side zero is a property of that record, not of all time. The row-level scan reproduces the aggregate exactly, one symbol spelling ("HAS") covers all filings, and our site's insider aggregate matches the 90-day window exactly. Fourth, the congressional lens is blank across all four sources (combined, House, Senate, member index) — a confirmed absence, not a missing file. Fifth, 13D/G totals are cross-date sums, not single-point stakes; the Meteora 10.8%-on-699,746-shares print implies a non-common share-class denominator and is reported as filed. Sixth, the full-market 13F value is reported including option rows — share and filer counts are this lens's primary measures. Seventh, the fundamentals record is complete: FY2025 revenue $5,365.9 million, net income −$322.4 million (a loss year), total assets $5,552.0 million, 141,044,467 shares outstanding as of July 20, 2026. Eighth, our price file records no split factor for this name and ends October 2, 2026, so post-earnings levels are separately sourced from daily-refreshed chart statistics. Ninth, the market figures in The Hype — Q3 sales and EPS, the consensus beat, the Magic revenue record, the outlook raise, the buyback doubling, the Strong Buy addition — are the outlets' published figures, cited as such, not blended into file-based calculations. Tenth, the October 20 single-day move (+11.2%, 8,008,800 shares, 4.7x the average volume of the 60 trading days before October 20 (1,708,058 shares)) is computed from the daily bars. Six of 83: The Superinvestors Hold Little Tesla — and Cut a Third of It in Q2
Six of the 83 superinvestors we track hold Tesla — one name is 84.8% of the cohort — and the cohort cut its aggregate share count 33.2% in the second quarter while all institutions added 27.9%, insiders filed one report in 90 days with zero purchases in a year, and short interest sits at 1.74% of shares outstanding.
80% Overlap, No Copycat Signal: Congress vs. the Superinvestors
Four of five congressional stock buys land in a stock the superinvestors hold — 688 shared names. But ticker by ticker, how often Congress buys a stock has almost nothing to do with how many managers hold it (ρ = 0.099), and the shared names did not pay better.
